[For Guy]

Daphne had been a little nervous when she'd signed up for the swing dance competition, but she wanted to show off some of what she'd learned in Alcuin's class.

Once the partners had been announced, she'd moved to a lot nervous. She was paired with Guy Burgess, someone older than her that she didn't really know that well. Someone she didn't know what to expect from, how he would feel about having a deaf dance partner.

But she'd never let nerves or her deafness keep her from taking action, so she'd gotten directions to his home and made her way there, knocking firmly and without hesitation as she stood on the porch, waiting and hoping he was home so she could introduce herself and get the whole 'I'm deaf' thing out of the way.

Guy hadn't quite seen who he had been paired up with. It was something he realized he should probably know beforehand, but it was also something he couldn't be arsed to go to the Compound for. In the end, Tristram Shandy won and he had stayed home.

He opened the door and was met with one of the students at the school. "Ah!" he recognized, and took the cigarette from his mouth. "You're the deaf one, aren't you. Daphne something. Algebra and some silly ones, if I'm not mistaken." Despite the drinking he had great memory for names and faces and on this island there were few other things to spend the skill on than knowing the students of his school.

Guy shook her hand and opened the door further. "Oh, very well. An interesting pair we'll make," he said cheerfully. "Do come in. Can I pour you anything? Tea? A drink?"

"I'm from the 1930s," Guy answered. "It was that... or the waltz."

He put the kettle on the small burner, a New Years gift he was possibly more grateful for than a cabinet stuffed with liquor. "And I've been taught a bit by the Dance teacher," he added, with a fond smile.
